this is an age of disruption and I think
more disruption than many of us have
experienced in our lives if there are
communities that we care about under
threat in these times it’s time for us
to step up the time is now to show the
country and the world what it means to
live our values last fall and all the
natural disasters that we saw hurricane
Harvey and then era and flooding in
Mumbai and a earthquake in Mexico and
the North Bay fires we had the red tab
foundation we had the global security
team we have the retail field teams all
coming together to really say how can we
serve employees when they don’t know
where else to go through our example how
we treat our people how we develop a
workable being program that actually
improves the lives of the makers who
create our products out there in the
factories we can make an impact being
part of service core really allowed me
to go to our factories and see the
impact of the work that we’re doing as
far as working well being we really are
part of the same journey and we really
can’t affect each other’s lives from the
beginning we’ve been there thinking
about and focused on people from the
Great Depression when a company didn’t
lay off the workers that was integrating
our factories before the Civil Rights
Act taking a stand and educating
employees about hiv/aids
pieter hoff senior said it best it’s a
habit in this company to take care of
people
we’ve ice has been a uniform of progress
and a symbol of cultural change it as an
icon what we say it matters
it was great to know that Levi’s was at
the center of the women’s March and
really standing out not just in the Bay
Area but the state and the country and
the world and fermium I that’s just
extraordinarily empowering our company
stood up to support immigrants South
Asians Muslims members of the trans
community and also victims in the
refugee crisis globally we know there
are a lot of challenges that our
industry has to confront the problems
aren’t abstract we’re talking about 11
of the world’s most important cities
likely being out of water by 2030 we
know that one pair of jeans takes about
five times the drinking water needs of a
person for a year
imperative to action is really evident
we open sourced our waterless techniques
that we use to reduce water and making
our products because we believe it’s in
the best interest of not only us but the
industry and the world the big important
changes can’t be reduced to a hectare
but they’re more important engage the
consumer in a story that’s complex but
meaningful it’s not just mil that’s
saving water or the factory saving water
or the field saving water it’s you the
can save water now is the moment of
urgency and it’s also a moment of great
opportunity profits through principles
is really being intentional about the
way that we make business decisions

choice instead of
it allows us to sustain the impact that
we have in the community and be bold to
be bigger so we can have an outsized
impact on the world we can reinvent the
way that we make our products the way
that we operate our business and the
impact we can have
