Peter Lewin | Levi Strauss & Co

Transcript

I’m Peter Lewin. I am the senior director
for strategy artificial intelligence and
marketplace insights for Levi Strauss.
Currently, Levi Strauss is a large global
apparel brand. We invented the Blue Jean
in I think 1880 or so and today we
provide clothing from shoes through hats
including jeans, tops outerwear, and so
forth all around the world Levi Strauss
have been involved in what we could call
corporate responsibility almost since
our founding in 166 years ago Levi
Strauss himself was a huge
philanthropist, and as an example we
provided electricity for the University
of California at Berkeley before
the university had a light bulb
since then, we’ve continued both on a
philanthropic front but then also in
terms of a sustainable set of
initiatives, for example, the use of
better cotton pioneering the use of less
water in the production of denim most
recently we’ve been using artificial
intelligence and laser technology to
change the way that we process jeans
this has the benefit of reducing the water
that we need to use the chemicals that
we need to use as well as the physical
labor that goes into distressing denim
there are several reasons why we
wanted to engage with LSM cup one of
them was for a diversity of opinions
perspectives on what we can do around
a particular business issue which will be
revealed in due course another thing
that we wanted to do was represent Levi
Strauss and company is a great place to
work forward-thinking to many
really outstanding business talents
about
so one of the principal things we look
for in the people that we bring into our
company is originality we want originals
and I’d say it’s very much the same for
the solutions we’re looking for for this
case there’s no one right answer we’d
like all of you to be really bold, come
out the idea with a bunch of different
perspectives and don’t limit yourself to
how you see Levi’s today
imagine what Levi’s could be in the
future
